Workshop Rearrangment and Renewal
After I finished the Plane Storage Shelf, I had one more big job to go. As I worked on the shelf I knew it was coming but I played it like I was two years old again and just stubbornly refused to admit reality. Like the phrase coined by Adam Savage from TV's Mythbusters, "I reject your reality and substitute my own!"
Unfortunately that fig leaf can only hold in place for so long.
Hanging the shelf meant I was going to have to rearrange the shop. Not just move a few things here and there, I mean a complete, knock it down, tear it apart and put it back together rearrangement. I had to take a deep breath for this one. If you watched the video tour I made of the shop this spring, you can pretty much disregard almost of it. In the end I am very happy with the changes and it's nice to have the shop feel this organized.

ReplyDeleteDerek, I'm curious about the slope top wood box on the metal top table. What do you use it for? any other pictures? I'm nosey about those since I'm planning some shop tool storage and am stealing ideas from all over.

ReplyDeleteJoe, The slope top box is my sandpaper storage box, Thrown together kinda quick and dirty out of some 1/2" plywood, You can see more about it by clicking on the "Sandpaper Storage" link in the left hand margin.
I'm sure you could use the concept to store other things too if you redesigned the insides, I got the shape and idea from an old farrier's toolbox I saw at a flea market.

Really nice! You've managed to cram a huge amount of stuff into a relatively small space. I may have to borrow a few of your ideas. (I already have your kerosene heater!)
ReplyDeleteIf I step back and think about it, you're right man, there is a lot of stuff crammed in there. This is the third re-arrangement, the biggest since first setting up the shop. But this is the best and most work friendly incarnation yet.
ReplyDeleteNow if I could figure out how to get all the seams, nooks, cracks, and crannies in the roof to stop leaking when it rains. A little insulation on the roof and I'll be set. . . but then it would probably be time to move the shop again. :)

Very nice! It's very satisfying to get stuff organized, at least until you start accumulating more... It really does make you more productive, too, so it's a worthwhile effort all around.
